Deming’s Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle

Deming cycle, PDCA, problem-solving, decision-making

The Plan-Do-Check-Act is a cycle for solving problems developed by Dr. W. Edwards Deming. The process begins with Plan (define desired outcomes, develop policies and procedures, identify potential solutions). The second steps is Do (create structure, establish systems, conduct training). Third step is Check (Audit and measure processes and technology, conduct gap analysis, draw conclusions). And finally, the fourth step is Act (Identify post-mortem “lessons learned,” implement corrective and preventive actions).
